TAKING IT ALL IN // Me when there’s a wall that smells like bananas. Also me all the time.
.
I just like to get in there. Really sniff things out. This one was sweet for sure, but maybe more vanilla than banana. Or cake batter even.
.
And in seeing myself in this ridiculous picture, I SAW myself. I was reminded of a conversation I had with a friend earlier in the day. She was struggling, frustrated with herself and a situation, but she didn’t want to share the details. She didn’t want to burden me with all the minutiae she said.
.
So I basically smushed my face up against her banana wall and took as big of a sniff as I could manage. I wanted all the info, because it’s not a burden. Her letting me in to know the push and pull of her struggle is a gift. It’s trust and intimacy and love. It doesn’t feel heavy to share in truths of the ones you love, even the truths that seem petty or small. And together we walked through the feelings. She felt less alone. I felt blessed to bear witness. And it smelled good. Like friendship
