FIRE SCARS // The giant sequoia has stayed in my mind since our travels a few weeks ago. Not only does she come from the smallest seed to become the largest tree on the planet, but she’s also hardy – lasting thousands of years. Even fire’s got nothing on her. She is able to withstand the worst of fires and THEN she uses that same fire to help grow her young. You all, she was BORN from fire. She’s like Mother Nature’s passion incarnate.
.
Each of those facets about her alone is awe inspiring, but more than her tiny seed, and her fire birth, and her height, and her girth, and her age, and her hardiness, I noticed her scars. She will heal her wounds from the inside out if they cut too deep into her core, wrapping around and forming a bulging knot to protect herself, but if a fire leaves just a surface scar on her bark, she leaves it. Forever. For all to see what she has endured. She almost seems proud standing there marked by fire. A reminder of her origin. A mark of her strength.
.
What are your fire scars? What wounds show the world what you’ve endured? What are your reminders of your origin? What are the marks of your strength?
