The Purple of Pills & Peaches
An exploration of the in-between and our sovereignty in it. The beauty at the edges - a body in transformation as vitiligo eats melanin, olive skin bleached barely pink. The sensual luxury of a summer peach - slurping its juicy sweet while in bed with the pain of chronic illness. The ruffliest joy and persisting strength of the feminine, a resistance to a patriarchal world. The circles of the mug and bowls contain the cycles of our lives, dis-ease and wellness, pills and peaches. Yonic symbols representing the feminine are painted throughout in Vs, triangles, and most obviously in the amulet tattoo. The amulet, a vulva atop a horse with a bow and torch, was historically worn as protection by medieval travelers against rapists, plague, and other dangers. And purple everywhere, like a healing bruise, in the in-between. Convalescing, yet very much alive. This is my power in the grief of another day in bed.
